The Wisconsin Badgers have secured a commitment from defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs, who is transferring from the LSU Tigers, as he announced on Friday. Suggs, who stands at 6’3 and weighs 295 pounds, recorded 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks during the 2024 season with the Tigers after moving from Grand Valley State the previous offseason.
At LSU, Suggs was a significant presence on the defensive line and appeared poised for substantial playing time this season. However, he opted to enter the transfer portal to utilize his final year of eligibility and chose to join Wisconsin, a school that had expressed interest in him the previous year when he was transferring from Grand Valley State.
By committing to the Badgers, Suggs reconnects with head coach Matt Mitchell, who previously coached him at Grand Valley State, and brings important veteran experience to Wisconsin’s defensive line, which has seen considerable changes this offseason.
Suggs is the fourth defensive lineman to join the Badgers this winter, following transfers Parker Peterson from Tulane, Corey Walker from Western Michigan, and Charles Perkins from UT-Martin. Wisconsin has also brought in outside linebackers Mason Reiger (formerly of Louisville) and Micheal Garner (formerly of Grambling State) to strengthen their defensive front, which is expected to look quite different in 2024.
With Suggs on board, the Badgers now have a key player in the middle of their defensive line who is anticipated to be one of the team’s top defenders in 2025.
