Former Kings forward Arthur Kaliyev shared some pointed remarks about the team after being claimed on waivers by the Rangers yesterday.
The Rangers acquired Kaliyev from LA as they struggle this season, currently sitting in 7th place in the Metro Division and falling further behind in the playoff race with a 3-7-0 record over their last ten games.
While Kaliyev could be a future asset for the Rangers, he is not expected to make an immediate impact. The 23-year-old has recorded just 2 points in 5 AHL games this season and has yet to play in an NHL game, which may explain the Kings’ decision to waive him. Nevertheless, Kaliyev expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, “I didn’t expect it, obviously, but it’s kind of like a dream come true. I grew up watching and living down here for a long time. I used to always come watch games here (at Madison Square Garden). It’s crazy. Not much more words you can say.”
However, he did not shy away from criticizing the Kings, noting that he had been searching for a chance to leave “for a long time.”
Though Kaliyev hasn’t shown significant progress in recent seasons, his age gives him room for improvement. Despite limited opportunities, he has demonstrated some potential at the NHL level, and the Rangers may be able to help him realize it.
