The New York Rangers faced some disappointing news on Tuesday morning during their skate as reports indicated that Chris Kreider’s condition has significantly worsened.
On Sunday, the Rangers announced that the 33-year-old veteran wouldn’t play against the Chicago Blackhawks due to an upper-body injury and was considered day-to-day. This news was particularly concerning given the Rangers’ need for all available players, making the loss of a seasoned athlete difficult.
Regrettably, Kreider has now been placed on Injured Reserve (IR), backdated to Sunday.
In light of this development, there have been talks about who will fill Kreider’s role in the lineup. Among the candidates is 23-year-old enforcer Matt Rempe, who will be eligible to return from his suspension after serving one more game.
Rempe won’t be able to play in Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars but will be available for the matchup against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
As for who will take Kreider’s place in the lineup on Tuesday, it remains unconfirmed, though possibilities include Jonny Brodzinski or recently acquired forward Arthur Kaliyev. The Rangers are gearing up to play the Dallas Stars at Madison Square Garden that evening.
