The Nebraska football team has been more engaged with the transfer portal this year than ever before, experiencing the highest number of player departures and additions in its brief history.
The recent days have been particularly eventful, but unfortunately, the outcomes have mostly been losses for the team.
Notable departures include wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda entering the portal, former linebacker Ismael Smith Flores choosing UTRGV, and offensive lineman Shiyazh Pete committing to Kentucky. Pete was initially considered a strong candidate for the Cornhuskers, but as the weeks progressed, the competition primarily narrowed down to Michigan and Nebraska.
However, just days before Pete made his decision, rumors surfaced about interest from an SEC school, which turned out to be accurate. This resulted in Matt Rhule and his staff missing out on their final target for the offensive line in the portal, suggesting their pursuit in this area may have come to an end.
Currently, the offensive line appears to be a significant concern for the Huskers. They could potentially address this issue by next month’s signing day, and there will be another transfer portal window following spring practice.
How Nebraska football will adapt moving forward remains uncertain and is something to monitor closely as the 2025 season approaches.
