The Nebraska football program understands what it needs to do to be competitive at a high level. This includes staying current with recruiting and NIL, achieving victories to increase postseason and television revenue, and investing like top-tier programs.
Regarding expenditures, it’s evident that the Huskers recognize the necessity and are capable of spending at unprecedented levels. According to the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska’s football program achieved record revenues in 2024 while also incurring significant expenses. Fortunately, the program reported a net profit, although it was smaller compared to previous years.
Public records indicate that Nebraska’s revenue reached $220,165,405, with expenses totaling $213,456,031. Despite a surplus of $6.7 million, this profit was 52% less than the previous fiscal year when revenue was $204.8 million against expenses of $190.9 million.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, athletic programs increased revenue by $15.3 million and expenses surged by $22.6 million compared to 2022-23. This includes an operating budget for the Nebraska football program of $84,059,267, which is $11.3 million higher than the previous year, marking a transition from Scott Frost’s last year to Matt Rhule’s first offseason.
Starting in July, the next fiscal year will see a $20.5 million budget designated for athlete revenue-sharing, emphasizing the need for increased revenues or decreased expenses to avoid frequently using savings. The introduction of this additional $20.5 million expenditure highlights that Nebraska football leaders and supporters must remain vigilant about financial management.
