The Texas Longhorns are welcoming back a key player to their lineup.
Edge rusher Trey Moore has officially declared his return to Austin through an Instagram announcement, after opting not to enter the NFL Draft or the transfer portal earlier this month.
Moore was a significant addition for the Longhorns from the transfer portal last offseason and earned a spot on the preseason All-SEC third team. He will utilize his final year of eligibility by remaining at the Forty Acres.
Moore is one of four Texas defenders with at least 10.5 tackles for loss this season and started all 15 games, including one against his former team. He has accumulated 139 career tackles—105 at UTSA and 34 at Texas—and is among three Texas players with 10.5 or more tackles for loss and 6.5 or more sacks.
His 6.5 sacks ranked third on the Texas roster. Moore is the only Texas defender to have recorded both multiple fumble recoveries and forced fumbles, achieving multiple tackles in 12 different games.
He logged nine total tackles during Texas’ three postseason matches against Georgia in the SEC Championship, Clemson in the College Football Playoff first round, and Arizona State in the quarterfinals.
During his two-year stint with the Roadrunners, Moore led the team in single-season sacks (14) and tackles for loss (18) in 2023. He earned the title of 2023 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was named first-team All-AAC that same year. As a redshirt sophomore, he was recognized as the AAC Defensive Player of the Week three times.
Moore joined UTSA as the District 27-6A Defensive Player of the Year during his senior year at Smithson Valley High School in San Antonio.
Now, he returns to Austin to contribute to one of the most potent pass-rushing units in college football.
