After a decade of effort, Kenny Guiton has finally secured a coaching position in the role he once played throughout his amateur and professional career, and he is grateful to the Wisconsin Badgers for the opportunity. He was appointed as the new quarterbacks coach following Phil Longo’s dismissal in November of the previous year. Although he has been with the team since January 2024, he initially served as the wide receivers coach.
Guiton expressed his excitement about achieving his long-held aspiration of coaching quarterbacks. “I’m definitely eager for this chance,” he told reporters, as quoted by 247 Sports. “Coaching has always had this aim for me. I’ve wanted to be in that position to influence quarterbacks.”
Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes is optimistic about collaborating with Guiton, praising his knowledge of the game and enthusiasm for coaching the position. “I’ve been really impressed with both his understanding of the game and his excitement about coaching,” Grimes noted. “We considered many candidates for this job and interviewed several in person.”
Guiton has been coaching since 2015 after a brief stint with the Buffalo Bills and played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Now facing a more challenging task with the Badgers, Guiton must adapt after several veteran quarterbacks opted to enter the transfer portal or declare for the draft. The most notable departure is Tyler Van Dyke, who left for the Miami Hurricanes.
The Wisconsin Badgers have three quarterbacks returning for the season: senior Billy Edwards, who transferred from Maryland; sophomore Danny O’Neill, formerly from San Diego State; and freshman Carter Smith. Despite having limited time with them, Guiton has already noted his admiration for the three players. “I see three guys who are eager; in the short time I’ve spent with them, I believe we’ll see significant growth in their leadership.”
