On Saturday, two former Nebraska football players aimed to prove they could compete at a high level in the sport. Ty Robinson and Thomas Fidone participated in the Senior Bowl, and although neither had a major impact on the game, both capitalized on their limited opportunities to impress NFL scouts during the All-Star matchup for college players.
Tommi Hill, another former Nebraska player, was also at the Senior Bowl but unfortunately did not play due to an injury sustained during practice. Observers noted that all three ex-Huskers demonstrated they could compete with the top players in their class, potentially attracting significant interest as Draft Day approaches.
In the game, Fidone and the American team defeated Robinson’s National team 22-19 with a last-minute touchdown catch by former TCU receiver Jack Bech. While Fidone’s offensive contribution was modest (one catch for eight yards), he distinguished himself in run blocking, notably aiding former Kansas running back Devin Neal’s nine-yard gain thanks to a well-created lane.
Robinson didn’t register a sack or a tackle, but he did hurry quarterback Riley Leonard and disrupted a play that resulted in a five-yard loss, showcasing his ability to influence the game despite the lack of formal statistics.
With the Senior Bowl concluded, these former Nebraska football players are now hoping to receive invitations to the NFL scouting combine.
