New Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck is set to make a strong return for the 2025 season.
Last season, Beck was among the top quarterbacks until an elbow injury affected his performance and draft prospects, leading him to opt for another year in school.
Returning provides him the opportunity to earn more through NIL deals while aiming for a significantly improved season with the Miami Hurricanes. He concluded the previous season with 28 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and 3,485 passing yards, posting an 80.9 QBR, which ranked him eighth in FBS.
The Hurricanes displayed a strong offense under former quarterback Cam Ward, but with Ward heading to the NFL and missing out on John Mateer, Beck may fill the crucial void.
While the Hurricanes need to bolster their defense, they are making progress in the transfer portal and have hired a new defensive coordinator. The question remains: Can Carson Beck lead the Hurricanes to the playoffs or even secure an ACC title?
It’s certainly a possibility, though they’ll face a tough schedule, and Beck must improve on his pre-injury performance by reducing interceptions and quickening his release.
Recovery from elbow surgery typically takes at least nine months, so he may need some time to regain his form initially.
The Hurricanes will start their season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on August 31 at Hard Rock Stadium. Following Notre Dame’s loss to Ohio State in the national championship, this opening matchup poses a significant challenge for Miami.
In November, Beck and the Hurricanes will be put to the test with games against SMU, NC State, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech. Victories against these teams, including Notre Dame, will be essential for Miami to contend in the ACC or make the playoffs.
It all hinges on Beck. While it’s uncertain which version of him will emerge, his competitive nature and talent suggest he could have a season worthy of comeback player of the year honors.
