The Wisconsin Badgers are gradually finalizing their list of official visitors for this summer, with several key recruits scheduled to visit during the first two weekends in June.
Among them is Illinois three-star tight end Gavin Mueller, who has emerged as a primary target for the team in the 2026 recruiting class.
Mueller, measuring 6’5 and weighing 230 pounds, recently visited Wisconsin for their junior day, indicating his interest. The coaching staff has shown a strong inclination towards him since offering a scholarship after his camp visit in June 2024.
However, Wisconsin faces potential competition from a familiar rival: Notre Dame.
On Thursday, Notre Dame extended an offer to Mueller, with their offensive coordinator, Mike Denbrock, also being involved. This move could significantly alter the recruitment landscape, as Notre Dame has a strong track record of successful recruiting and has previously attracted some Wisconsin targets.
Recent additions to Notre Dame’s roster include four-star tight end James Flanigan, four-star offensive lineman Owen Strebig, three-star offensive lineman Matty Augustine, and three-star defensive lineman Gordy Sulfstead, all from the 2025 class.
Notre Dame has recruited a tight end in each of their last three classes, which suggests they may pursue Mueller aggressively after extending their recent offer.
While Wisconsin appears to have a favorable position with the three-star tight end, they may now confront increased competition due to Notre Dame’s recent engagement.
