Morgan Sanson, the French midfielder, has acknowledged that his disagreements with Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa were the reason for his departure from the club. Speaking to RMC Sport, he explained that he has no regrets about leaving. Sanson had joined Villa from Marseille for €15.8m in January 2021 but made only 23 appearances and played for 761 minutes overall, due to injuries and COVID-19, as well as Gerrard’s lack of appreciation for him. Sanson eventually left Villa after Gerrard was replaced by Unai Emery, joining Strasbourg on loan in January 2022 and then Nice in the summer. Although Villa have been performing well under Emery, Sanson believes that his issues were with Gerrard, who arrived instead of Emery.
