Ramsay, aged 20, has had a challenging 18 months. After leaving Aberdeen for Liverpool in the summer of 2022, he only played twice before being loaned to Preston last summer. However, he only played two more games at Preston before his loan was cancelled, and he returned to Anfield. Shortly after, Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be stepping down as Liverpool manager. Ramsay is now expected to go on a new loan deal.
According to assistant boss Pep Ljinders, Ramsay will leave Liverpool on loan. Reports suggested that Southampton and Leeds were competing to land him, but Liverpool has made a decision about his future. They have decided to send their £6.5m signing to League One side Bolton. Conor Bradley had impressed on loan during the 2022-23 season at Bolton, and he has also impressed for Klopp’s senior side this season.
Liverpool has been keen to send players on loan to clubs where they will gain plenty of game time. At Leeds, Ramsay would not have started over Archie Gray on the right and would have only played as a backup to Gray. Although Ramsay can play on the left, this was not enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Instead, Ramsay will join Bolton, who are pushing for the League One title, two points behind the leaders, but with two games in hand. Ramsay’s addition will immediately strengthen Bolton, which would not have been the case at Leeds.
