In the final hours of the window, Middlesbrough’s Morgan Rogers is the new name to watch in the Midlands, with Adelaide United goalkeeper Joe Gauci and Arsenal youngster Lino Sousa also expected to be announced as signings. While Aston Villa had been in talks with multiple attacking targets this month, they have abandoned plans to sign a new striker due to financial concerns. Instead, Villa boss Unai Emery plans to use Nicolo Zaniolo as a back-up striker to Ollie Watkins for the remainder of the season. Watkins has been in great form, scoring 15 goals and registering 10 assists in 31 games, while Duran has netted four times in 23 appearances and Zaniolo has two Villa goals to his name. Emery hopes to mold Zaniolo into a striker when Watkins is unavailable.
