The New England Patriots are not the only team in search of a future signal-caller in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders have the first two picks and may both select a quarterback. Other teams with a need at the position include the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders. However, with a limited number of prospects, the competition will be fierce. The decision makers for each team have already been filled, and they will do what they can to improve their team, even if it means sacrificing the prospects.
In an ideal world, each of the top six quarterback prospects would end up in the best situation for future success. For Caleb Williams, that would be with the Washington Commanders. Providing him with some continuity from his college days, the Commanders have hired Williams’ USC offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, for the same role on their staff. Additionally, the Commanders have a solid group of weapons in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel to elevate their offense.
The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly hired Ryan Grubb, former play caller for Washington, which could pave the way for them to select Michael Penix Jr. as their college quarterback and allow him to sit for a year before joining their capable offense. For the New York Jets, J.J. McCarthy could benefit from sitting behind Aaron Rodgers and learning from him, even if it has the potential to backfire. Drake Maye would be a perfect fit for the New England Patriots, who need someone who can quickly learn their system and elevate the talent around them. And for Jayden Daniels, the Atlanta Falcons would be the perfect fit, with a strong offense and the opportunity to run a creative option scheme with their talented backs.
