Most of the NBA’s top offenses have one thing in common: a big man who can shoot. The Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Oklahoma City Thunder all fit this mold, making them some of the best teams in the league. The Toronto Raptors recognized the importance of this and acquired Kelly Olynyk, who may not be the best defensively or offensively, but excels at spacing the floor. This is exciting for All-Star forward Scottie Barnes, who benefits from the increased driving lanes and kickouts that Olynyk’s shooting creates. Having a big man who can shoot changes the game by forcing opposing defenders out of the paint and making it easier for offensive players to attack the basket. This is exactly what Barnes needs to thrive. While it may take some time for the Raptors to develop chemistry, the addition of Olynyk should provide some much-needed room for their offense to breathe and grow.
