Patrick Mahomes may still harbor some resentment towards Buffalo Bills fans after they gave him a rude farewell last month, as evidenced by his behavior at the Super Bowl parade. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had a difficult encounter with fans after his team’s playoff win over the Bills in January, and a video of him snubbing a Bills fan at the victory parade on February 14 went viral, resulting in backlash from Bills supporters.
At the parade, Mahomes interacted with fans along the route, shaking hands with some of the hundreds of thousands who attended. However, when he encountered a fan wearing a Josh Allen jersey, he quickly retracted his hand after extending it for a high five. The fan was left hanging as Mahomes continued on to greet other Chiefs supporters.
Following the playoff loss, Bills fans were upset and some still held a grudge from a controversial incident during the regular-season meeting between the two teams. After the game, Mahomes and Allen met on the field where Mahomes loudly complained about an offsides call that nullified a potential game-winning touchdown for the Chiefs.
Just minutes before the incident, Mahomes had praised the Bills fans for creating a great environment in what was his first game before a full stadium in Buffalo. He had only visited Buffalo once before, during a 2020 regular-season game played in an empty stadium due to COVID restrictions.
During an interview with CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson on the field after the game, Mahomes expressed his appreciation for the atmosphere in Buffalo. However, he also acknowledged the challenge of playing on the road and the need for his team to come together to face the difficult environment.
While Mahomes loves playing in front of the Arrowhead crowd, he recognizes that playing on the road requires a different level of teamwork and resilience. He believes that his team’s ability to come together and overcome the hostile environment was a key factor in their victory over the Bills.
