AJ McCarron, the Buffalo Bills’ highly valued quarterback acquisition from the 2018 season, has returned to familiar surroundings – at least one of them. The St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League have declared the return of McCarron in time for the weekend. Initially, McCarron was set to lead the Bills in 2018, but due to a preseason shoulder injury, he was replaced by rookie Josh Allen. Shortly before the season began, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders.
Known for his successful college career at the University of Alabama, McCarron spent most of this season with the Cincinnati Bengals and played in two games towards the end of the season. As a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft, McCarron has established a strong reputation during the spring circuit, earning MVP honors for leading the Battlehawks in passer rating, touchdown passes, and completion percentage in the rebooted XFL. St. Louis is one of four XFL teams partnering with four more from the United States Football League for the first merged UFL season, which is set to begin on March 30. With 19 career games and four starts in the NFL, McCarron has completed 113 of 179 passes for 1,192 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown in 22 attempts. McCarron has a 2-2 record as a starter, with three starts for Cincinnati and one for the Houston Texans.
