In the last four years, the Buffalo Bills have faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs three times in the postseason. This includes their latest Divisional Round game against Patrick Mahomes and his team this past season. Unfortunately, the Bills have lost all three matchups, making it clear that the Chiefs currently have the upper hand in their rivalry. Despite this, Bills quarterback Josh Allen believes that playing against Mahomes and the Chiefs is nothing out of the ordinary. As a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, he remains confident in his team’s abilities.
What is clear is that Allen doesn’t put much stock into these types of narratives, especially when it comes to his individual rivalry with Mahomes. As he implied, it’s not as if he’s going one-on-one in a boxing ring against the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl MVP.
However, it’s hard not to consider that this may be the issue at hand. While Allen’s competitive drive cannot be questioned, it may be necessary for him to approach these quarterback competitions with a more personal mindset, particularly when facing off against Mahomes. It’s worth noting that had Allen not lost to Pat in the playoffs three out of the last four years, we likely wouldn’t be scrutinizing him as much as we are now.
