During the upcoming offseason, the New York Giants aim to boost their offense by adding playmakers. Their passing game ranked 31st in the NFL last season, with a dismal average of 169.8 passing yards per game. General manager Joe Schoen is prioritizing the acquisition of talented receivers to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.
Since taking over as head coach in 2022, Brian Daboll has been struggling with a shortage of offensive talent. However, during his tenure as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, Daboll led one of the most explosive and productive offenses in the NFL. Wide receiver Gabe Davis was a significant contributor to this productivity, excelling in Daboll’s offensive scheme.
This offseason, Davis will become a free agent, and the Giants could consider him as an option to bolster their receiving corps for the 2024 season.
Davis has been a consistent home-run hitter for the Buffalo Bills throughout his career, averaging at least 500 yards and six touchdowns per season. In 2023, he had an impressive 746 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 45 receptions. While he may not be a top-billed free agent, Davis could be a valuable middle-market option for the New York Giants. His estimated market value is $13.6 million per year, which would make him the highest-paid skill position player on the team. Reuniting with former coach Daboll could be beneficial for both parties, as Davis excelled in his offense and averaged 610 yards and seven touchdowns per season under his tutelage. However, the Giants may opt to pass on Davis due to the presence of WR Darius Slayton, who has similar numbers and a cheaper contract. Ultimately, the Giants will need to prioritize creating more explosive plays in 2024 and make strategic decisions in free agency to achieve this goal.
