In preparation for the 2024 NFL free agency period and regular season, the Buffalo Bills are working to reduce their salary cap overage. On Monday, it was reported that left guard Connor McGovern’s contract was being converted to guarantee his deal for 2024, resulting in a clearing of $3.74 million in cap space. Spotrac later provided additional details, stating that $4.675 million of McGovern’s 2024 base salary was converted into a signing bonus, adding two void years and clearing $3.74 million of cap space for this season. Despite the expanded 2024 NFL salary cap, which includes $13 million more in available money than originally predicted, the Bills are still over the cap limit. General manager Brandon Beane has much work to do to comply with the league-mandated salary cap before the team can consider signing free agents or draft picks. The Bills may make additional moves, such as leveraging restructures to spread out the cap hit for several players’ contracts. The Bills are currently estimated to be between $37.3 million and $40.1 million over the cap.
