The 49ers acquired Christian McCaffrey to compensate for Jimmy Garoppolo’s limitations, as investing in the run game is a logical strategy when a team has a mediocre quarterback. However, Brock Purdy is not a mediocre quarterback, but rather a Pro Bowl player who would benefit from a strong offensive line and open receivers. The 49ers could trade McCaffrey for a first-round pick and still maintain a strong running game with Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason, and Deebo Samuel. With the first-round pick, the team could improve their passing game by selecting an offensive lineman or tight end. As they now have a Pro Bowl quarterback, it is time to optimize the passing game to increase their chances of winning a Super Bowl.
