Head coach of the Carolina Panthers Dave Canales worked with quarterback Russell Wilson for ten years in Seattle, serving as the quarterback’s coach for some of those years, and he helped get the best out of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
Canales was asked on the “Up & Adams” programme on Wednesday if he would think about bringing in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who was released by the Denver Broncos.
“This is not the circumstance for Russ,” Canales said in a calm manner.
It’s the clear solution. It takes reps for Bryce Young. All attention must be on the young quarterback considering the sum of money the team spent to acquire him. Canales was chosen for the job primarily for this reason. It is hoped Canales can help Wilson and his work with Baker Mayfield from last season.
Wilson is also unlikely to want to accept a backup position at this time from an experienced player. His goal should be to start with a very defined role and work his way down from there.
Canales, who had previously stated he had no intention of pursuing the seasoned signal-caller, complimented Wilson on how he handled a difficult circumstance in Denver.
“But what I will say about him is taking that chance and that opportunity to go to Denver, I really admire him for that,” he stated. “I genuinely respect the bravery required to declare, ‘I’m going to venture beyond my comfort zone.'”
“In any case, from individuals like me who spent the entire ten years [in Seattle] with him, the degree of comfort that
originates from the idea that “I can foresee everything he will ask for and I know everything he will ask for.” He truly took a chance on himself by trying something new to see what might develop from it. Hey, the movie’s out there, but I really give him credit for what that turned into.”
Andy Dalton is the veteran backup quarterback that the Panthers now use. QB mobility should be plenty with Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, and other quarterbacks at our disposal. Nonetheless, Carolina won’t be considering applicants seeking their first jobs.
