Derrick Brown of the Carolina Panthers enjoyed a unique NFL regular season in 2023.
And he’s still getting credit for it.
Brown was just listed as one of the top-101 players by Pro Football Focus. He joins a group of athletes that includes A.J. Brown, Sauce Gardner, and Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle.
On PFF’s ranking, Brown came in at number 36. What remained of them was as follows:
According to Pro Football Focus, Brown “was historically disruptive along the defensive line for the Panthers in 2023.” According to PFF’s statistics, he led all interior defenders in single tackles (73), and defensive stops (53). He only missed five tackles the entire season, and his PFF run-defense grade was an outstanding 90.0.”
Brown broke the previous single-season tackle record during the year by
linebacker on defence with 103.
Because of his performance, he was selected for the Pro Bowl.
It’s encouraging to see Brown receiving the recognition his consistent output merits. But it puts the Panthers in a risky position because Brown is expected to get a sizable salary when the 2024 NFL season ends.
