When the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins offensive guard Robert Hunt agreed to a big 5-year, $100 million deal that will expire on Wednesday when NFL free agency opens, the Panthers already made some noise about solving their offensive line issue early today. Apparently, that wasn’t the end of their offensive line.
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report claims that the Panthers will also be adding an offensive guard. They are expected to sign former offensive guard Damien Lewis of the Seahawks to a four-year, $53 million contract this Wednesday.
According to PFF, Damien Lewis, a former third-round selection out of LSU, has only given up seven sacks in four seasons in true pass sets. He is expected to start right away for the Carolina Panthers, who allowed the second-most sacks in the previous season, only to the Washington Commanders.
With this move, the Panthers enter the NFL Draft with at least one “replacement level” talent at each of their five offensive lineman spots. Although the club struggled most in the interior offensive line, this doesn’t mean they won’t be open to adding another one. Moreover, it lays a strong platform for former first-round quarterback Bryce Young to continue developing.
