According to a recent rumour, the Carolina Panthers and five-time Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore are interested in reuniting in the NFL during free agency.
The Panthers have turned to the free-agent and trade market to improve upon their dismal 2023 season, as they will not have a pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. With the addition of Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt, they have significantly strengthened their offensive line thus far. They also made a trade for Diontae Johnson, a troublesome player for the Steelers.
They appear to be planning to use some of the remaining over $8 million in free agency (via Over The Cap) to get one of the better cornerbacks available on the open market, who also happens to be a former Carolina Panther.
The Panthers “have reached out to free agent CB Stephon Gilmore about a possible return to Charlotte” for the 2024 season, according to Joe Person, a Panthers reporter for The Athletic, who made the announcement on Tuesday. The squad acquired the five-time Pro Bowler from the New England Patriots in an offseason trade, and he went on to play nine games for them in 2021.
