The Western Bulldogs’ 2022 AFLW player payments entry contained administrative irregularities, which led to the AFL fining the team $20,000 suspended.
The club will not be required to pay the punishment unless there are discovered violations in the AFL or AFLW programmes until the conclusion of the 2024 season. The fine is related to third-party agreements.
The AFL disclosed that the inaccuracies were not seen to be significant in a statement.
The statement stated that these mistakes were found during routine audit procedures carried out by the AFL and were not deemed significant in terms of intent or value.
The Bulldogs’ breach happened in the sixth or seventh season of 2022, according to the statement. The Bulldogs only just missed the finals in season six, finishing in seventh place. The following season, the AFLW expanded to include 18 clubs. The Bulldogs finished seventh again, making the finals, but this time the Magpies defeated them by five points in an elimination match.
