On April 1, during an interview on the Up & Adams Show, Nyheim Hines highlighted the accident that led to his torn ACL in July 2023. Despite initially being involved in a dispute with the Buffalo Bills over pay, he later signed with the Cleveland Browns. In the recent appearance, Hines admitted that he blames himself for the incident and acknowledged that he has learned from his mistake, vowing to avoid putting himself in situations that could lead to similar injuries in the future.
In light of that, I could criticize the Bills all I want, but ultimately, the responsibility lies with me. I shouldn’t have gotten myself into that predicament.”
Even though Hines’ agent initially seemed to criticize the Bills following the incident due to a disagreement over money owed, Hines later explained to The Athletic that they were able to resolve the issue amicably.
“We were both upset, both sides were disappointed,” Hines said in November. “It caught us both off guard. They had big plans for me, and they knew I take responsibility for my actions, and that this situation would affect me more than them.”
Quick Back Ready to Make a Comeback
Hines mentioned in an interview on Monday that his recovery is progressing well and he feels even better than he did a month ago, when running at full speed was still challenging.
“I wouldn’t wish an ACL surgery on anyone,” Hines expressed. “It’s tough in the initial months, but you start to see progress in Month 4, 5, 6, 7.”
Despite making a significant impact on the Bills following his arrival at the 2022 trade deadline — scoring two kickoff return touchdowns in a crucial win over the New England Patriots — he was released by the team on March 6 as part of several roster moves that freed up over $30 million in cap space. Hines now has the opportunity to offer experienced support in Cleveland behind Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford.
