After spending seven seasons with the Bills, Jordan Poyer will be wearing different colors in 2024 as he joins the Miami Dolphins. Poyer expressed gratitude for his time in Buffalo but is excited for new beginnings in South Florida and hopes to contribute to the success of his new team.
The Dolphins finished the last regular season with an 11-6 record, which was the franchise’s highest number of wins since 2008. They made it to the playoffs for the second consecutive season under head coach Mike McDaniel but were eliminated during Super Wild Card Weekend by the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Miami has not won a playoff game since 2000 and has not secured a division title since 2008. The team finished second behind the Bills in the AFC East. Poyer, who was released by the Bills, aims to contribute his skills to support the Dolphins. His release from the Bills was due to their need to create cap space before free agency began, and he understands the business aspect of the decision. Poyer’s career has been impressive, with over 800 tackles, 54 passes defensed, 24 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries. Despite being 32 years old, he continues to perform at a high level. Poyer’s familiarity with the Dolphins and his admiration for head coach Mike McDaniel influenced his decision to join Miami. After spending seven years in the AFC East, he has observed the Dolphins’ growth as a team and has connections within the organization. Additionally, his respect for McDaniel as a coach and as a person, along with the impact of McDaniel’s off-field story on Poyer’s own life, contributed to his choice. Returning to South Florida, where he resides during the offseason, also played a part in his decision to sign with the Dolphins. Now entering his 12th season, Poyer is back in the place he considers home.
