Since selecting Sammy Watkins with the 4th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have not selected a wide receiver in the first round.
Ten years later, an expert thinks it might be time for another significant change. There may be a “compelling case,” according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, for the Bills to move up into the top 10 of the NFL Draft this year in order to take advantage of a historically strong wide receiver class.
Buscaglia pointed out that even though the Bills don’t have the draft cash to move up and acquire Marvin Harrison Jr., the team still has a chance to select the next-best receiver available.
Bills: Another “Aggressive” Draft Trade
According to Buscaglia, the Bills may consider trading up to land LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is expected to be the second receiver off the board. He added that Nabers would be the first receiver taken in most years, but will now fall somewhere in the back half of the top 10.
“Nabers has superstar potential, boasting a versatile skill set to line up wherever he’s needed and a knack for YAC (yards after catch),” Buscaglia wrote. “That is everything the Bills are looking for in a potential new top target for Josh Allen.”
Analyst Buscaglia suggested that the Buffalo Bills could potentially trade up in the draft to select Nabers as they address the gap left by trading Diggs and losing Davis. General Manager Beane has a history of being aggressive in the draft when excited about a prospect. Alternatively, the Bills could also use their No. 28 pick to select wide receiver Thomas Jr. as a replacement for the deep threat that Davis provided.
