Following Aston Villa’s fantastic 2-0 victory away at Arsenal, Unai Emery showered Nicolo Zaniolo with praise, admitting that a talk the Italian had with the team had spurred a significant increase in form.
Zaniolo, who joined from Galatasaray in the summer on a £3 million loan with a £19 million buyout option, had trouble at first. The wide midfielder didn’t track back as much as Emery required, which was important, and his first touch was erratic and his finishing was subpar.
But after a few months, the Italy international appears like a completely different player. Starting at championship contender Arsenal is a tremendous accomplishment in and of itself, but what was even more amazing was the persistent work he put in.
