The Buffalo Bills have appointed former Ronald Curry as the team’s new quarterbacks coach, according to CBS’ Jonathan Jones. Curry, a former star in both basketball and football at North Carolina, has served as an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers (2014-15) and the New Orleans Saints (2016-23) over the past decade. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Saints in the last three seasons and was offered the wide receivers job this offseason but chose to coach Josh Allen, one of the league’s top passers. Before coaching, Curry had a seven-year NFL career and was a highly acclaimed high school athlete, achieving success in both basketball and football at Hampton (Va.) High School. He was the McDonald’s National Basketball Player of the Year and the National Football Player of the Year by Parade. He set records in basketball for points and assists and won the Most Valuable Player of the 1998 McDonald’s High School Basketball All-Star Game. On the football field, Curry led Hampton to three consecutive state championships as a quarterback, safety, punter, and kick/punt returner. He holds the state record for passing yards and touchdowns. At the University of North Carolina, Curry became the starting quarterback in 1998 and is ranked No. 7 in UNC history for career passing yards, No. 11 in passing touchdowns, and No. 11 in total touchdowns. Curry was twice named MVP of bowl games. He also played point guard for UNC basketball and was part of the ACC regular-season title-winning team. In the NFL, Curry transitioned to wide receiver and had productive seasons with the Oakland Raiders despite dealing with Achilles tendon injuries.
