Due to their significant financial constraints going into the offseason, the Buffalo Bills terminated six players before to the start of the new league year and allowed several other important players to leave via free agency.
One former Bills player is still available, though, as a free agent.
Micah Hyde, the longtime protector.
Hyde has even entertained the idea of retiring, and Buffalo made it quite apparent following the season that it had no intention of signing him again. But since Hyde is still unsigned, the Bills might be interested once more, and he does appear to want to go back to Buffalo.
In a recent social media update, Bills writer Maddy Glab stated that while Hyde is unclear about his plans for 2024, if he does play again, he can’t imagine it being for anyone other than Buffalo.
Hyde just finished a 14-game 2023 campaign in which he recorded 54 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defensed.
The Green Bay Packers originally selected the 33-year-old in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played NCAA football at Iowa. Although he played some good football for the Packers throughout his first four years of the league, he didn’t really stand out until he joined the Bills in 2017.
In route to his lone Pro Bowl appearance that season, Hyde recorded 82 tackles, five interceptions, and thirteen passes defensed. In addition, he was selected to the Second Team All-Pro.
After spending seven more years in Buffalo, Hyde was selected to the Second Team All-Pro in 2021.
He may not be the same player he once was, but perhaps there is still room for Hyde in the Bills’ secondary.
