Fields was added by the Steelers to their roster this offseason via a trade with the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round pick. Although some see him as Russell Wilson’s rival, he is not anticipated to debut until 2024.
According to league sources, the Steelers do not plan to exercise quarterback Justin Fields’ $25 million fifth-year option. Fields was acquired by the team last month in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick. Russell Wilson and Brandon Fields will soon be in the final year of their contracts.
There is a possibility that Fields may continue playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers beyond this season, as the team might choose to extend his contract. Despite not opting for his fifth-year option, retaining Fields, who is only 25 years old, appears to be a sensible choice for the Steelers.
