Pittsburgh In the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers will select a centre if they believe the player is a near-certain pick. That’s what the analytics indicate, at least.
Paul Hembo of EPSN recently shared a list of statistics from the NFL Draft’s first round that demonstrate which positions have the best chance of succeeding in the league and which ones are more likely to be busts. The player Pittsburgh needs most, a centre, is at the top of the list with the lowest bust percentage.
From 2000 to 2019, there has only been one miss in the centre position out of all positions selected in the first round. Nevertheless, compared to positions like edge rusher (104) and wide receiver (77), they have only made 12 overall choices. Nevertheless, in Round 1, centre has a 92% hit percentage.
With the 20th pick, the Steelers might prioritise three players at the position. Although Duke’s Graham Barton and Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson appear to be the top two picks in the draft class, Zach Frazier of West Virginia is rising through the ranks and may also make it to the first round.
Early in the NFL Draft, the Steelers will also be evaluating wide receivers, cornerbacks, and offensive tackles. The group’s highest hit is the tackle percentage with 59%, trailing just center. Of 64 players selected, 38 have worked out.
