Everyone appeared to exhale in unison upon Daniel Snyder, the former owner of the Washington Commanders, being forced out of the NFL. For many reasons, including bringing down a once-proud franchise, his dismissal was long deserved.
It appears that David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, has stepped in to fill the hole left by Snyder. Although there isn’t any evidence of harassment or improper behaviour, which seemed to be frequent during Snyder’s time in Washington, Tepper is demonstrating in other ways why he might be the worst owner in the league.
Team success has been lacking since Tepper took over the Panthers in 2018, with no winning seasons and a 31-68 record, tying them with the New York Jets for the worst in the league. Despite fans being able to handle losing if there’s a clear plan for improvement, Tepper has failed in this aspect as well, having had six coaches and two general managers in six seasons. His decision-making with players, like trading star receiver DJ Moore and two first-round picks for quarterback Bryce Young, raises questions about his ability to assemble a competitive team despite his financial success in hedge funds.
Tepper, the owner of the Panthers, has made some questionable decisions, such as passing on Stroud and Williams in the draft. He has also been involved in incidents, like throwing a drink at Jacksonville fans and confronting a restaurant owner. Despite his wealth, Tepper is asking for public funding to renovate Bank of America Stadium. This has left Panthers fans with little to cheer for, as success might be a long way off under his ownership.
