The Carolina Panthers are accessing a unique source of talent.
Wide receiver Daewood Davis is anticipated to sign with the Panthers, subject to a physical, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Thursday. Davis played for the Memphis Showboats in the UFL earlier this year.
The 25-year-old Davis attended Western Kentucky and Oregon before being selected in the 2023 NBA Draft. He was waived months after sustaining a terrifying injury during a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars that resulted in the game being suspended. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent.
Thankfully, Davis was able to make a comeback in the UFL this season, where he recorded five touchdowns and 446 receiving yards for the Showboats in ten games played during the regular season. That was sufficient to warrant Davis All-UFL team recognition.
The Panthers selected South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette with their first-round selection (No. 32 overall) in this year’s draft, and they also added another No. 1 receiver earlier in the summer. Now that Davis is back, they will have greater depth at the position and some big-play potential.
