The Buffalo Bills have brought in experienced pass-catchers to strengthen their evolving wide receiver group after losing their top two receivers from the 2023 season. Analyst Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report believes the team might still surprise fans by adding veteran Corey Davis, who recently applied for reinstatement after a sudden retirement from the New York Jets. Ballentine points out that the Bills are a potential landing spot for Davis, as he waits to join a team for his comeback in the NFL.
Davis had been a consistent contributor since coming into the league in 2017 with the Tennessee Titans. He hit a high point in 2020 with 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns and took on a significant role with the Jets in 2021 and 2022.
Ballentine suggested that the 29-year-old could still have something to contribute on the right team
“The potential is still there for Davis to be a functional weapon in the right offense,” Ballentine wrote. “He never lived up to his billing as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 draft, but he became a good enough vertical threat to be a second or third option.
Having lost Diggs and Davis earlier in the offseason, the Bills have added experienced players to their wide receiver group. They recently brought in Marquez Valdes-Scantling from the Kansas City Chiefs and Chase Claypool, who has been impressing during early team practices. Claypool has stood out among the new additions, showing his skills by outplaying defenders, including rookie safety Cole Bishop. Experts suggest that the team might rely more on the veterans as Claypool adjusts to the NFL. While Coleman has potential, there are concerns about his readiness to step into Diggs’ role as the team’s top receiver. Monson of Pro Football Focus cautioned that although Coleman has qualities like size and excellent hands similar to Diggs, he may struggle with route-running and separating against man-to-man coverage like Diggs.
