Wide receiver Khalil Shakir left the field early on the first day of the Buffalo Bills’ mandatory 2024 minicamp, citing what Sal Capaccio described as “some sort of lower body injury.”
Capaccio continued by saying that Shakir was seen chatting with team trainers before to hobbling into the fieldhouse from the practice area. Shakir left to complete the day’s training with his teammates as a result.
Injuries typically occur at this time of year in a frequency comparable to regular-season play. Injury is frequently the result of players returning to the practice field in an organised way, which causes abrupt increases in physical labour.
There is uncertainty surrounding the nature of Shakir’s injury being labeled as “lower body.” Capaccio acknowledges that he’s not a medical professional, but lower body injuries are often apparent by observing one’s walking pattern. After seeing linebacker Matt Milano practice with limitations due to a lower leg injury last season, there’s concern that Shakir may be facing a similar situation. While details about Shakir’s injury are lacking, it’s positive that he was able to walk off the field instead of needing a cart. Shakir’s role in the upcoming season is crucial, especially with the departure of key receivers. As long as he can remain healthy, he is expected to have a significant impact. It’s still early in the season, so there’s room for optimism.
