The Carolina Panthers are fully equipped with edge rushers when a few injuries occur. In addition to DJ Johnson departing practice on a cart with an unidentified injury, head coach Dave Canales informed media on Tuesday that Eku Leota is suffering with a calf problem.
“Sometime this afternoon, we’re going to get a peek at him (Johnson). They will perform an MRI and perform a thorough examination. I’m sincerely hoping for the best because I believe it happened during a special teams exercise.”
Canales said last week that Johnson has been limited for most of the spring because he has been dealing with a lot of issues.
He had some consequences from a ruptured quadricep tendon. He had a repair, and they had to clear out a few different things, so we’ve been going back and forth in an attempt to get him as healthy as possible so he can return to the pitch and play at his best.”
With just two practice days remaining, it’s probable that we’ll see the last of Johnson until training camp. It’s unknown if yesterday’s injury is related to what he had already been struggling with. During his first season, the 2023 third-round pick made 13 appearances and tallied 16 tackles.
