The conclusion of Stefon Diggs’ time with the Buffalo Bills was far from straightforward. There was controversy surrounding the departure of the wide receiver to another team, leaving the Bills without their star player. Bills general manager Brandon Beane recently discussed the situation for the first time, acknowledging the success Diggs brought to the team over the four years he was there. Beane mentioned that the decision to part ways with Diggs was a mutual one, with a focus on transitioning the team and giving opportunities to younger players to step up in various roles.
In early April, the Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. And that happened less than a day after the receiver responded with “You sure?” to a tweet stating that Josh Allen didn’t need a game-changing receiver to be great.
And that was only his most recent action during what seemed to be a very tense season.
Going our separate ways was, therefore, the best course of action.
“It was probably the timing. He’s still a tremendously excellent player, especially considering where we were in the transition and where we were going. “I have no malice towards Stef,” Beane stated. We appreciate everything he did for our team, but in the end, we’re still trying to get over the top. I know he’s trying to get over the top and you’re constantly looking at the tweaks you need to make.”
