DeWayne Carter, a defensive tackle with the Buffalo Bills, is not your typical rookie.
The seasoned 23-year-old was the first-ever three-time captain in the history of the college programme. He earned four varsity letters at Duke. The seasoned veteran is now there for the Top 100 draft pick to rely on as he adjusts to his new surroundings.
Carter has not wasted any time in utilising the 11-year veteran as a resource, even with DaQuan Jones leading the Bills’ depth chart at the position.
“You discuss intelligence first, correct? You can discuss [his] performance on the field, but his intelligence is what really strikes me in the conference room, the film room and everywhere else, don’t you think? His expertise in the game and the amount of knowledge he has imparted to me,” Carter stated in a a media scrum recorded by WGR 550 as after last week minicamp practice
With 133 NFL starts under his resume, Jones, 32, is about to start his third season under Buffalo’s defensive system. Jones’s system knowledge and expertise are priceless resources that he can use to assist young players in navigating the rookie adjustment period.
“Over the past few weeks, the playbook has been growing day by day here,” Carter remarked. “I’m going to keep honing my skills and learning the playbook.”
The aforementioned elements suggest that Carter, who most likely fits in the Bills’ plans as Jones’ primary backup, might be prepared to contribute more than most third-round rookies are expected to.
