Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was acquired by the Carolina Panthers in March in exchange for veteran cornerback Donte Jackson from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Carolina, in dire need of speed at receiver, found one of the NFL’s fastest and finest separators.

A Review of 2023:
Number-wise, the 2023 campaign was possibly the lowest of Johnson’s career. But as the season progressed, he did get better; in the last six weeks of the season, he scored four of his five touchdowns, plus one more in Pittsburgh’s playoff defeat to Buffalo. You will be duped, though, if all you’re doing is glancing at the numbers rather than the bigger picture. In the middle of the season, the Steelers benched offensive coordinator Matt Canada and started three quarterbacks: Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett. Like Carolina’s offence, Pittsburgh’s was disorganised throughout the whole season.
Predicted Position in 2024:
Johnson is expected to begin at the X, but he will most likely travel around the field to play Z and receive looks in the slot. The Panthers’ offence lacked his quickness and ability to get open early in routes in the previous season. Throughout his career, he has struggled with drops, and earlier this summer, he acknowledged to reporters that he has occasionally allowed those moments to overcome him. He’s one of the more exciting receivers in the game, though, when he’s on. For the majority of the season, anticipate that he will be Bryce Young’s top or second target. Eventually, rookie Xavier Legette might take a few of those targets.
