A Review of 2023:
A little over a month into the season, Hubbard dethroned Miles Sanders as the Panthers’ starting quarterback. There were times when it appeared as though Hubbard would be the team’s long-term answer at the position. Four of the five 80+ yard performances he recorded occurred in the last month of the season. He ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-18 loss to Tampa Bay, which was the high point of his season.
Although Dave Canales has stated that he anticipates using different backs in the run game, Hubbard comes into camp as the favourite to be the starting back. Until rookie Jonathan Brooks is prepared to assume a larger role, he should be the starting running back if he can build on his successful 2023 season. Hubbard will likely split one rep with the rookie even in that scenario, continuing to play a significant role.
