Josh Allen, the quarterback, and the other Buffalo Bills starters will play for about a quarter of the team’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night, according to an announcement made by head coach Sean McDermott on Friday afternoon. But only a few days after Matt Milano, the quarterback for the Bills defence, was placed on injured reserve with a torn bicep, McDermott chose not to put his franchise quarterback in danger in a pointless exhibition game after a rainy day in Pittsburgh sopped up the field inside Acrisure Stadium.
Following the game, McDermott said that although Allen was supposed to start, a last-minute decision to start former Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was made based on his instincts about the state of the field.
According to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com, Bills coach Sean McDermott stated that the decision to bench Josh Allen was made based on intuition and a strong joint practice. In Buffalo’s home opener against Chicago during the preseason, Allen saw only eight plays of action and completed only two of three ball attempts. Josh Allen and the other Buffalo starters may or may not play in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, according to McDermott’s latest comments.
