The New England Patriots announced the death of team physician Dr. Mark Price on Sunday. In a statement issued on behalf of owner Robert Kraft, the organization conveyed its heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Price’s family, friends, and colleagues.
“It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dr. Mark Price, a respected team physician, who fought bravely against cancer,” the statement said.
Dr. Price joined the Patriots as head team physician and medical director in 2016, providing outstanding expertise. His contributions to the health and well-being of our players were essential, and his dedication to excellence was clear in all that he did.
Born in 1952, Dr. Price earned his PhD from MIT in 2001 and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School two years later. He served as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves and received a Bronze Star Medal for his combat service in Afghanistan.
As highlighted in the Patriots’ statement, Dr. Price held the position of head physician and medical director for seven seasons and was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams before Dr. Scott Martin took over in 2022, while Dr. Price continued to be involved with the team’s extended medical staff.
In addition to his role with the Patriots, Dr. Price practiced as a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine and was an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical.
“We offer our sincerest condolences to Dr. Price’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time,” the Patriots’ statement concluded. “His legacy will live on through the numerous lives he impacted and the enduring influence of his work.”
