Wednesday, September 4, saw the Indiana Fever defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 93-86 to win their fifth straight game, but there was much more at stake in this contest than there actually was.
The Chicago Sky had fallen to the Las Vegas Aces 90-71 the day before, and the Atlanta Dream had fallen to the Phoenix Mercury 74-66. The Fever officially secured their first WNBA Playoffs berth since 2016 with the defeat of both the Sky and Dream.
Indiana’s victory over Los Angeles would have guaranteed them a postseason position if Chicago or Atlanta had prevailed.
In her locker room statement prior to Wednesday’s game, Christie Sides, the head coach of the Fever, discussed her team’s priorities for the final stretch of the season and how they can secure a postseason position.
“We’re here,” declared Sides. “There is nothing to establish. All we need to do now is maintain getting better in order to achieve our goals in the grand scheme of things.”
Highlights from the Indiana Fever’s victory over LA and the precise moment when Clark achieved her second triple-double of the season were featured in the remaining video, which was uploaded on X by the team’s official account.
After winning her first Coach of the Month award and going 5-1 in August, Sides had the finest month of her coaching career at Indiana. With two Player of the Week and Player of the Month titles, Clark again demonstrated his dominance in August. There are six games left in the regular season for the Fever. The last few games will be a battle for a higher postseason seed. Indiana currently holds the sixth seed as of Wednesday night.
