On Tuesday, September 3, the Chicago Sky’s problems worsened even further when they were defeated 90-71 by the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces in a humiliating blowout.
MVP front-runner A’ja Wilson went off for a massive 30-point, 14-rebound double-double, and the Sky had no answer. After falling to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 100-81 on Friday, August 30, Chicago lost by 19 points for the second time in three games.
After losing their seventh straight game, Sky’s coach Teresa Weatherspoon is well aware of how far her squad has fallen. She is also aware that in order to pull her men out of this rut, she will have to kindle a fire under their bellies.
After Tuesday’s defeat, the rookie shot caller accomplished precisely that.
In her press conference following the game, Weatherspoon stated, “When you’re honest with it, losing is not a cute thing.” “It is not comfortable. It’s not a sentimental affair. Thus, you decide not to let go of that uncomfortable feeling you’re experiencing. And you get the thought, “I don’t want to feel like this,” as soon as you enter the practice. This is not how I want to feel.
“In order for us to succeed, we must put up a stronger fight. The battle is tougher. Everyone is engaged in combat. not only ourselves. It’s a fighting game, everyone. All you have to do is step up your game and fight smarter. That’s our current situation.” The Los Angeles Sparks will be the Sky’s next opponent when they play at home on Friday, September 6. The Sparks currently have the lowest record in the league (7-26), thus this game would most likely be the one Chicago needs to win to get past this terrible run of play.
