Due to a wrist injury, Chicago Sky All-Star rookie Angel Reese will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced on Saturday.
Reese suffered the injury during Friday’s 92-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, who were in town. After additional medical examination, the Sky made the decision to terminate her for the entire year.
Reese wrote, “What a year,” on X, the platform that was formerly Twitter. “I never thought my rookie season would end with a 3, but perhaps that was God telling me to give them a taste of what they can expect to see more of in Year 2 lol.
I’ve proven throughout that I belong in this level, even when nobody else did. My only goal in life has been to enter the W and have an influence. I’m sure I’ve done that, and I’ll make an effort to continue. My season-ending injury has me feeling a range of emotions right now, but I’m also really grateful for what lies ahead.”
Reese, 22, was chosen by Chicago with the seventh overall choice in this year’s draft. In 34 games (all starts), he averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds. In addition, she was awarded an All-Star.
This season, Reese recorded 26 double-doubles, which is the second-highest total in league history for a single season.
The Sky are presently holding the final playoff slot, eighth in the WNBA standings. They play the Dallas Wings on Sunday in the first of their last six regular-season games.
