Several people questioned whether Mitch Marner had played his final game in Toronto after the Maple Leafs were ousted in the opening round of the playoffs. The centre of all trade rumours was the much-maligned forward.
He gave off the impression of a man in need of some fresh air.
Nevertheless, despite the fact that his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, he is still in Toronto. Above all, he wants to silence his detractors and demonstrate that he is worthy of a large contract extension.
Because Marner’s shoulders are too hot for certain people. Among them is Nathan MacKinnon, who feels that Marner is receiving excessive criticism in Toronto.
This summer, MacKinnon and Marner trained together, and the Avalanche star had nothing but positive things to say about his opponent. He believes Marner to be among the league’s finest players and says he “has nothing to envy anyone.”
Nevertheless, that’s not the only reason Marner is receiving flak in Toronto. The complaint is that he is absent during the critical junctures. During the regular season, he is one of the team’s main players, but during the playoffs, he is much more humble.
Although I think this story is a little over the top (he has 50 points in 57 career playoff games), you have to find someone to blame for the Leafs’ postseason collapse. I’m not advocating that he be absolved of responsibility
The question now is whether a successful 2024–25 season for both the player and the team may mend the strained relationship between Marner and the Maple Leafs.
In a year, I have a feeling he’ll be sporting a new uniform. However, this year in Toronto is going to be quite exciting.
