She shared that today marks the 20th anniversary of her meeting Carey.
This indicates they first met at the beginning of the 2004 season, a time when Price had yet to be drafted into the NHL and was playing for the Tri-City Americans.
No, it wasn’t just yesterday!
During the 2004-2005 season, Carey Price played 63 games with Tri-City in the WHL, achieving 24 wins and 8 shutouts while posting a goals-against average of 2.34 and a save percentage of .920.
Surprisingly, despite these impressive numbers—particularly for junior hockey—Carey ended the season with a losing record of 24 wins and 39 losses.
It’s reasonable to say that he didn’t have a strong supporting team.
Nonetheless, just a few months later, he was selected 5th overall by the Montreal Canadiens, leading to his remarkable career.
In her post, Angela notes that her friend Lauren Watson was the one who introduced her to Carey.
She mentions that they continued to see one another despite challenges and warnings from #31’s coach.
“Twenty years ago today, I went on my first date with Carey. My friend, Lauren Watson, introduced us, and we went on a ‘double date’ to Red Robin. I couldn’t help but notice his large hands, and I found his Canadian accent quite charming.
The following night, I attended one of his games, during which he let in several goals.
Eventually, his coach informed us that we could no longer see each other because I was a distraction.
So, we met in secret, which added an exciting element that likely strengthened our long-term commitment to each other. (laughs)”
